Gifting Yourself With A Tax Rebate

An average American spends $500 on holiday presents, bot on the other hand, you can clear up things that are unwanted and score a flatter tax refund in the process by donating them wisely.

Make a tally on the approximate worth of your giveaways,-the amount you'll deduct on your tax return by using the valuation guide at salvationarmyusa.org. Next, drop off your goods to a charity that's approved for tax-deductible donations.

Secure a receipt from the charity stating that the donations are in "good used condition or better" - necessary for them to qualify for a deduction. Also, take photos of the items; you'll need both if an auditor comes knocking.

Next tax time, deduct the total value of the donations from your taxable income. That's one way of reaping the rewards of being nice! :)
