Financial Top Love Tips

Yes, dear sisters, it's time for a little financial tough love!

Stop trying to be the hurtables, and instead start to right-size your spending and evaluate everything as a need vs. want.

Stop fighting over money by setting up three accounts, - my money, your money, our money. With that, you both get the flexibility to use funds as you wish, while covering your commitments.

Teach your kids financial values by discussing the family budget, and train them to save half of whatever money they get into their bank account. Let them know that as they grow older, they'll need to get a job.

Break the shopaholic cycle by stopping to self-medicate yourself through shopping. According to studies, women tend to buy things as a means to happiness. But that is only temporary and lasts until the bill comes due. Just face what's causing you to feel less than whole.

Be selfish a little bit by taking care of yourself first and not giving someone else money before yourself. Don't enable behavior that doesn't lead to self-sufficiency. It only invites stress and putting yourself last.

Make your money work for you. Set up automatic withdrawals from your paycheck to send money directly to your savings account, - and don't touch it.

Have an extra income in case of a layoff. You can use that extra cash to pay down bills or increase your savings.
