How To Shop For Perfumes Efficiently

Take note that your nose can't handle testing more than 4 scents, so narrow down the field by first sniffing on a fragrance blotter.

Spray your final choices on your outer forearms and inner wrists, testing each scent on one spot. Ideally, you should allow several hours for the fragrance to develop on your skin before you make a decision. At the very least, wait at least 30 minutes.

When testing various fragrances, sniff your sleeve to combat sensory overload (or take a whiff of coffee beans - many fragrance counters have them available.).

Apply scent according to concentration. One to 2 drops should last up to 12 hours for perfume. For eau de parfum, a maximum of 3 sprays is good up to 8 hours, and for eau de toilette up to 4 sprays, and cologne (6 sprays).

Fragrance is enhanced by the warm, pulsing parts of the body like the hollow of the neck, behind the ears and elbows. Avoid spraying your hair or on your clothes - the oils in scents can turn hair greasy and stain fabrics.
